An email alias is not a real email account (or mailbox). Instead, it’s an address that forwards all email it receives to a real email account.
For example: If you create an email alias called .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and link it to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), then all email sent to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) will automatically be forwarded to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) (in this scenario, ‘sales’ is called an alias of ‘you’).
Email aliases can also forward to email accounts outside of your domain name.
For example: You can setup .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) as an alias for .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), then all email sent to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) will automatically be forwarded to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) (in this scenario, ‘sales@your-domain.com’ is called an alias of ‘you@your-isp.com’)
Forwarding to multiple email accounts or even to another email alias is also possible. This way you can have a number of email addresses to fit your needs with only a handful of actual email accounts (mailboxes).
The number of aliases and mailboxes permitted, varies with each Web Hosting package.
