A Top Level Domain (TLD) is the last part of a domain name; that is the letters which follow the final dot of any domain name. For example, in the domain name hetzner.co.za, the top-level domain is ‘.co.za’.
The domain name system is designed as a hierarchy. A Top Level Domain is the uppermost in the hierarchy of domain names. For example, hetzner.co.za is our domain name. The ‘.co.za’ is considered the TLD and the ‘hetzner.co.za’ is considered the second level domain. Together they form a unique domain name. The administrator for a TLD controls what second-level names are recognised in that TLD.
Hetzner assists in the registration and renewal of certain Top Level Domains.
