The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a non-profit organisation responsible for managing and coordination the Domain Name System (DNS) and the unique assignment of:
- Internet domain names
- Numerical IP Addresses
- Protocol Port Identifier assignments
- DNS Root Server Systems
These functions were previously performed under US Government contract.
