When you require access to a database (available for those holding a Basic hosting package or higher), visit the ‘Manage Services’ area of your online control panel, konsoleH, from where it can be created and maintained conveniently via a MySQL management tool (including PHPMyAdmin).

On the main page of the MySQL Database manager in konsoleH, you will see your database list. This is a list of databases you currently have installed on your domain. If no databases are installed, only the database quota will be visible.

Set-up a MySQL Database using konsoleH:

  1. Browse to konsoleH (http://myaccount.hetzner.co.za)
  2. Login with your Client number and Management password
  3. Select or search for a domain name in the ‘Hosting Service’ tab
  4. Click ‘Manage Services’ on the left-hand menu
  5. Select ‘Manage MySQL’ under ‘Databases’
  6. To add a database, click [ADD] (top middle)
  7. The database access information is displayed. It is recommended that you keep the default information but you can change the access details to your liking.
  8. The Full Password is the most important. It allows access to the entire database and allows you to create or delete any database information, columns or rows.
  9. The R/W (Read/Write) Password only allows read and write access to the database. No data or database structures can be deleted when logged in with the R/W password.
  10. The R/O (Read Only) Password will only allow you or an application to read information from the database. No data or database structures can be changed when logged in with the R/O password.
  11. Once all the necessary changes have been made, click on ‘Add’ to create the database.
  12. If successful, a message will appear stating that the database has been created. The database connection string will also be displayed that can be used in a PHP application.

Once you have installed your database, you will see that three more buttons are added to the top of the page: ‘Edit’, ‘Delete’ and ‘phpMyAdmin’.

Clicking on ‘Edit’ allows you to change the passwords to the databases and clicking on ‘Delete’ will delete your database. If you choose to delete a database, konsoleH will ask you to confirm your action before a database is deleted. Be careful when executing this command as it cannot be undone.

To manage your database you can click on ‘phpMyAdmin’ and then select your database name from the top left under the ‘Databases’ tab.
