Customers will know that they have an active SSL session with a website when their browser displays the little gold padlock in the status bar of the browser.

If a secure session is established between the browser and the web server, the address bar begins with ‘https’ rather than ‘http’.

It is possible to tell the strength of the encryption of a particular SSL session by moving the mouse over the padlock to view the encryption strength.
