The software build utilised for all Window 2008 r2 installations, comes standard with SQL Server 2008 Express.


SQL server 2008 Express uses a default named instance called “SQLExpress”.

To connect to your SQL Server 2008 Express database engine, use Windows Authentication mode and the server details: 

<servername>\SQLExpress 

For example:

WIN-35RLBHMI91U\SQLExpress 

NOTE: No Passwords are set at all for the default SQL 2008 Express installation.
