PAE stands for Physical Address Extension. PAE allows Windows 2003 systems to extend the memory range from the 32bit limit of addressable 4GB space to 64GB addressable space. This is a flag administrators can set as a boot option to enable 4 additional address bits in the
processor.
Enabling Physical Address Extension(PAE) requires a flag to be set in the boot.ini file.
Edit the boot.ini
- Click Start
- Click Settings - Control Panel- System
- Click Advanced
- Click Settings - Startup and Recovery
- Click System Startup
- Edit
- Add the /PAE switch.
- Reboot the server
