Mozilla Thunderbird 3 Troubleshooting Guide

Your customised mail settings are as follows:

Email Address: you@your-domain.com

Incoming (POP) server: pop.your-domain.com

Outgoing (SMTP) server: smtp.your-domain.com

Account / User Name: you@your-domain.com

SMTP Authentication: On (same Username as POP)

SMTP Port: 587

Note: If SMTP Authentication is not catered for by your email program, you must rather use your ISP's SMTP server.

Troubleshooting account setup for Mozilla Thunderbird 3

  • Launch Mozilla Thunderbird

    1. Launch Mozilla Thunderbird.

    2. Click on the Tools menu and then click Account Settings.

  • Select the relevant account

    3. Select the relevant email account from list on the left.

    4. Ensure that your settings look like the settings shown in this screenshot. In particular, check that:

    Your Name displays your name as it will appear the “From” field in your emails

    Email Address is you@your-domain.com

    Please note: The Reply-to Address is not required. If none is specified the reply will go to the email address listed.

  • Server settings

    5. Click on the Server Settings sub-category on the left.

    6. Ensure that your settings look like the settings shown in this screenshot. In particular, check that:

    Server Name displays pop.your-domain.com

    User Name displays your full email address e.g. you@your-domain.com

    Check for new messages every __ minutes is set to 10 minutes.

  • Outgoing Server settings

    7. Once your settings look like the settings shown in this screenshot, click on the Outgoing Server (SMTP) sub-category on the left.

    8. Ensure that your settings look like the settings shown in this screenshot. In particular, check that:

    Server Name displays smtp.your-domain.co.za

    Port displays 587

    No is displayed for Secure Authentication

    You can update these settings if necessary by clicking the Edit button on the right.

    9. Click OK to return to the Thunderbird application and you should now be able to send and receive email.
