Windows Live Mail Troubleshooting Guide

Your customised mail settings are as follows:

Email Address: you@your-domain.com

Incoming (POP) server: pop.your-domain.com

Outgoing (SMTP) server: smtp.your-domain.com

Account / User Name: you@your-domain.com

SMTP Authentication: On (same Username as POP)

SMTP Port: 587

Note: If SMTP Authentication is not catered for by your email program, you must rather use your ISP's SMTP server.

Troubleshooting account setup for Windows Live Mail

  • Check existing account settings

    1. Launch Windows Live Mail

    2. Select Accounts from the top menu bar and then Properties icon from the top left

  • Check your settings

    2. Select the "Servers" tab and ensure that your settings look like the settings shown in this screenshot. In particular, check that:

    • Incoming mail server (POP3) displays pop.your-domain.com

    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP) displays smtp.your-domain.com

    • User Name displays your full email address e.g. you@your-domain.com

    • Password is the one specified when mailbox was created in konsoleH

    • The radio button "Log on using clear text authentication" is selected

    • The "My server requires authentication" tick box is selected under the "Outgoing Mail Server" section

    3. Once your settings look like the settings shown in this screenshot, click on "Settings"

    4. Ensure that you have selected the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" radio button, then click "OK".

  • Advanced Settings

    5. Select the "Advanced tab"

    6. Ensure that your settings look like the settings shown in this screenshot. In particular, check that:

    • The Incoming server (POP) port is set to the default (110)

    • The Outgoing server (SMTP) port is set to 587

    7. Click "Apply", then "OK"
