CuteFTP Setup

Setting up CuteFTP

  • Download CuteFTP

    1. Browse to CuteFTP and download the version you wish to install on your PC

  • Install application

    2. Should the Installation Wizard not open automatically, double click the downloaded setup file to launch.

    3. Click Run.

    4. To proceed with installation click Next

    5. To proceed with installation, ensure you have read the Licence Agreement..

    6. Click Yes

    7. Make sure the file is installed in your desired location (Program Files recommended).

    8. Click Next.

    9. Make sure the radio button labelled ‘Typical’ has been selected.

    10. Click Next.

    11. Un-tick the boxes to ensure the Ask Toobar is not installed on your default web browser.

    12. Click Next.

    13. The Setup Status screen will appear allowing you to monitor the installation progress.

    14. Once the installation is complete, click Finish.

    15. The application should launch automatically and you will be prompted to configure your FTP settings in order to connect. Should the application fail to launch, perform a manual launch by browsing to the application file in the chosen location.

    16. Insert your domain name or IP address in the Host Address field.

    17. The Site Name field will be automatically populated, however you are able to customise your site name by clicking in the text box.

    19. Insert your username and password ensuring that the Normal radio button has been selected.

    21. Insert the path to the folder in which all your website content is saved on your PC by using the browsing tool.

    22. Click Next.

    24. You will automatically connect.

    25. Click OK

  • Using Cute FTP

    26. To connect or troubleshoot your connection to your hosting server in future, search for Connect under the File menu and select either connect or reconnect.

  • Using CuteFTP

    27. You will notice that your FTP details have been automatically inserted in the relevant fields on your CuteFTP application window. The page is then divided into two main panes. Your local folder (your local computer) is displayed in the left while your public_html folder (the hosting server) is displayed on the right.

    28. Make sure you have selected the public_html folder in the right hand pane to ensure the data is transferred to your website successfully.

    29. Using the drop down menu in the left pane, search for the drive or folder containing your website content.

    30. Open the applicable folders within the body of the left hand pane until you find the specific folder containing your website content.

    31. Select one of the content files you wish to transfer to the host server.

    32. Select all the other files you wish to transfer, while holding down on the control (ctrl) button on your keyboard, until all the files have been highlighted.

    33. Drag and drop into the public_html folder (anywhere in the right hand pane).

    34. Note the progress bar appearing in the bottom pane indicating the transfer progress.

    35. Once transfer is complete, your folders or files will appear in the public_html folder.

    36. You have now successfully transferred data to your hosting server, repeat the steps under ‘Using CuteFTP’ until all the desired content has been moved successfully.

  • Disconnect

    37. Select Disconnect from the File menu.

  • Check website functionality

    38. Browse to your domain name in order to verify that the content was uploaded successfully.

    39. If your home page is not loading by default, ensure that your web server is pointing to the correct file by making use of the Index Manager tool in konsoleH under ‘Manage Services > Configuration > Webserver Config > Index Manager’.

    40. Should it still not display correctly due to propagation still being in progress, make use of the temporary URL.
