FileZilla Setup

Setting up FileZilla

  • Note:

    This guide details how you would go about uploading FileZilla onto a Windows operating system. Scroll down to ‘Using FileZilla’ for details on how to transfer data to your hosting server.

  • Download FileZIlla

    1. Browse to FileZilla and download the FileZilla Client version for your operating system.

  • Install application

    2. If the Open File window does not appear automatically, double click the downloaded setup file to launch the installation Wizard.

    3. Click Run.

    4. To proceed with installation, ensure you have read the Licence Agreement.

    5. Click I Agree.

    6. Choose whether you want sole control over the FTP application or whether you would like to allow anyone using your PC to have access.

    7. Click Next.

    8. Select which components you wish to install on your PC.

    9. Click Next

    10. Make sure the file will be installed in your desired location (Program Files recommended).

    11. Click Next.

    12. Should you wish to create a FileZilla shortcut in your Start Menu, select ‘Accessories’. Alternatively tick the ‘Do not create shortcuts’ tick-box.

    13. Click Install.

    14. The green progress bar allows you to monitor the FileZilla installation.

    15. To launch FileZilla immediately, ensure the ‘Start FileZilla now’ box has been ticked.

    16. Click Finish.

    Should you wish to launch the application at another time, simply search for it in one of your chosen locations as selected in step 8.

    17. Click OK to begin using FileZilla.

    18. FIll in your FTP login details in the QuickConnect toolbar.

    19. Click the Quickconnect button to initiate the FTP connection.

    20. Once connected you will see your local folders (your local computer) displayed in the left hand pane while your public_html folder (the hosting server) will be displayed on the right.

    21. Make sure you have selected the public_html folder in the right hand pane to ensure the data is transferred to your website successfully.

    22. Using the Local site menu in the left pane, search for the drive or folder containing your website content.

    23. In the pane below, select the specific folder containing your website contents

    24. The selected folder will appear in the top pane while your website contents will appear in the pane below.

    25. Select one of the content files you wish to transfer to the host server.

    26. Select all the other files you wish to transfer, while holding down on the control (ctrl) button on your keyboard, until all the files have been highlighted.

    27. Right click on the selected files.

    28. Click Upload.

    29. Note the progress bar appearing in the bottom pane indicating the transfer progress.

    30. Use the scroll bar to search for your uploaded file under your public_html folder (In the right hand pane).

    31. You have now successfully transferred data to your hosting server.

  • Check website functionality

    32. Browse to your domain name in order to verify that the content was uploaded successfully.

    33. If your home page is not loading by default, ensure that your web server is pointing to the correct file by making use of the Index manager tool in konsoleH under ‘Manage Services > Configuration > Webserver Config > >Index Manager.

    34. Should it still not display correctly due to propagation still being in progress, make use of the temporary URL.
