Traffic in SA

When your website is browsed, copies of web pages are served which generates traffic. While our traffic usage is generous, it is regulated. Please observe our "Acceptable Use Policy" referenced under "Policies & Procedures".

Traffic, DE (Germany)

Traffic Usage for Managed DE servers is free. Should traffic regularly exceed 2TB/month, bandwidth will be restricted to 10 MBit/s. The connection can permanently be set to 100 MBit/s at a charge of R300 for every additional TB.

Operating system

All our managed dedicated servers run Debian Linux. We found this to be the most stable platform for a hosting environment.

Processor

The processor controls the performance of the server. The faster the processor the more work the server can do in a period of time.

RAID

RAID ensures that, in the event of single hardware failure, no loss of data will be experienced.

RAM

Like the Processor, RAM dictates the server's performance. If you intend to run applications and websites that demand high resources we suggest the more RAM the better.

Disk Space

Disk space is the allocated space for any file storage associated with your Hetzner hosting plan. Storage areas are made available for email, raw log files, account specific configuration files and your publicly accessible web files.

Power Supply

Our servers have various levels of hardware redundancy. If server uptime is mission critical for your business, then more than one Power Supply is recommended.

DNS Hosting

DNS (Domain Name System) is the system responsible for translating domain names into numeric IP addresses and vice versa. The DNS maintains a list of all the domain names and distributes them throughout the world.

Dedicated IP

An static IP address allocated to your server.

Backups (incremental and full)

We keep a backup of all your website files. Full backups are conducted weekly, while incremental backups are conducted on a daily basis. Backup files are kept for a maximum of two weeks. Please note, Hetzner does not guarantee backups.

Firewall protection

A firewall configured locally on the server making use of the Linux kernel packet filtering framework).

Ksplice

Ksplice is an application that enables our technical team to apply important kernel security updates released by Linux, without the need to reboot your server.

Anti-virus scanning

All incoming email is scanned for potentially harmful viruses that will be removed or quarantined before it reaches you. You should still use anti-virus software on your PC to ensure that you are fully protected against malicious attacks.

Anti-spam filter

Hetzner’s Spam Filter is built around a set of spam rules carefully developed to provide protection from spam. All mails are evaluated against these spam rules and are assigned a "spam score." This score determines whether the message is classified as spam

Spamhaus Zen

Spamhaus Zen is a Blacklist licensed subscription service containing IP addresses that have a history of sending spam. Our mail server rejects all emails coming from these IP addresses. Spamhaus Zen is offered for free with every Hetzner mailbox.

Mail Log

A mail log is a record of all emails sent or received from your mailbox. While you cannot retrieve the actual mail from the mail logs, you are able to view the send or delivery status of mails sent from or to your mailbox.

Webmail

During business travels, simply use your online web mailbox from a laptop, internet cafe or remote office to stay in touch.

Full Root Access

Super user access. The special user account that is controlled by the system administrator. The highest level of access with no restrictions in place to limit activities.

Fax-to-Mail service

The fax-to-mail services allows you to recieved faxes directly into your inbox.

FTP Backup

Backup your data to a remote computer or device using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) connection. This allows you to store important files offsite. Please note, Hetzner does not guarantee backups.

The Remote Control allows you to monitor and manage your server from any location as if you had direct access to it in the Data Centre.

You get a set number of IP addresses asigned to your server. The allocation is as follows:

/29 network: You are assigned 8 IP addresses, of which you can use 3 IP addresses

27 Network

Recursive DNS Servery

Queries from your server are sent to the Recursive DNS Server. This DNS Server will answer the queries fully by querying other name servers as needed. The server will also cache DNS lookups and help protect against certain security issues. This makes for a faster and more reliable DNS service.

We offer 24 hours and day, 7 days a week emergency support service via our call centre and online Help Centre.

30-day money back guarantee

If a customer chooses to discontinue hosting with us during the first 30 days of service due to our failure to comply with our predetermined, high standards, a refund (excluding unrecoverable initial costs) will be made of the fees paid by the customer for those services up to the date of termination.
