Hetzner Online builds a new Computer Centre Park in Germany
Construction on Hetzner Online's new high-capacity computer centre began in Falkenstein, Saxony in October 2008 and is scheduled for completion in June this year.
With a surface area of 1 200 square meters, the building will have space for up to 10 000 servers. In total the park has 100 000 square meters of land on which to build, and is optimised to accommodate other computer centre operators.
Hetzner Online’s current infrastructure consists of 7 Data Centres which cover a total of 5000 square meters and have access to 72 GBits of bandwidth. They are currently hosting more than 20 000 servers and as such have reached capacity.
The new infrastructural concept has been introduced on the site not only to increase capacity, but also to enhance connection times and system stability. For example, the design allows for the layout of critical supply lines on the property and easily accessible maintenance tunnels between the individual building sections for optimal networking of the various computer centres.
This new concept means that computer centres can be built in an extremely short period of time and can still be connected to the existing power and data network. The power input is guaranteed through redundant connections to the power station next door. Multiple fibre optic connections to Frankfurt and Nürnberg ensure rapid data exchange.
