Hetzner Online Germany opens new Data Centre Park
25 July 2009 marked the grand opening of Hetzner Online’s new Data Centre Park in Falkenstein, Germany. There were more than 200 guests at the opening ceremony, including key members in commerce and politics.
With a floor space of 1 200m2, the new high-capacity data centre is designed to accommodate 10 000 servers. The data centre park has a total surface area of 100 000m2 on which to build. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, the new facility ensures that other data centre operators, such as Hetzner South Africa, are easily accommodated, while significantly increasing availability, speed and security.
Power is supplied by NaturEnergie AG, an environmentally sensitive service provider which uses hydro-power to generate electricity. This electricity is conducted via two separate lines to redundant transformers, and augmented by a static transfer switch (STS) which further increases availability. Back-up power is supplied by a state-of-the-art UPS system and a diesel generator.
Two redundant high-speed fibre optic lines to Frankfurt and Nuremberg ensure faster data transfer which can transport up to 800GBit in comparison to the current 72GBit.
By sharing floor space with Hetzner Online, Hetzner South Africa is able to share the features of the new Data Centre Park with all our customers hosting their websites or servers in Germany.
