Use webmail to filter your mail and manage spam
Hetzner’s webmail client features a number of interesting tools which you can use to help manage your web-based mail more efficiently:
”Spam” and ”Innocent” reporting tools:
Webmail’s Spam and Innocent reporting buttons are tools you can use to tell us how effective our spam filtering system is. By marking your emails as Spam (unsolicited emails you receive in your inbox which you feel should be sent to the spam bucket) or Innocent (emails you receive in your spam bucket that feel should be sent to your inbox) you are sending an alert to Hetzner which allows us to identify and monitor spam trends.
It is important to note that this feature is purely a reporting tool and does not alter the spam status of your mails. The reports help us to monitor the effectiveness of our spam filtering system so that we can continuously improve its performance.
Blacklisting and Whitelisting – konsoleH vs. Webmail:
Although similar, the Blacklist and Whitelist tools found in webmail behave differently to that of the konsoleH Blacklist and Whitelist tools.
konsoleH- Blacklist – When you blacklist an address via konsoleH, mails from this address are automatically rejected and will never appear in your inbox regardless of what mail client you are using.
- Whitelist – When you whitelist an address via konsoleH, mails from this address that would normally have been filtered to the spam bucket, will now appear in your inbox regardless of what mail client you are using.
- Blacklist – When you blacklist an address via webmail, mails from this address will be filtered to the webmail spam bucket. This action only takes affect within the webmail mail client.
- Whitelist – Webmail allows you to create your own mail filtering rules, this means that mails can be automatically sent to their relevant folder without appearing in the inbox e.g. all mails from @hetzner.co.za must be sent to the “Hetzner” folder. Should there be an exception to the rule you have created e.g. you would like mails from .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to appear in your inbox, then you can whitelist this address so that it once again will appear in your inbox and not the folder.
