Flexible reseller hosting with Hetzner’s Volume Plan
If you’re a web designer or entrepreneur with a significant number of websites and you’re looking for a cost effective way to grow your business, Hetzner’s Volume Plan is for you!
The Volume Plan boasts generous traffic and disk quotas allowing you to host numerous websites, all within the same plan, for a set monthly fee of R595.

The Volume Plan offers a flexible grouping solution with generous traffic and disk space quotas, making it a feasible and cost-effective alternative for a growing business.
At R595 per month, Hetzner’s Volume Plan offers economies of scale and increases your profit margin with the more hosting packages you add to your Volume Plan. This means that when you include more individual Home and Business packages to your Volume Plan, you will reduce the aggregate cost per package, which is ideal for Hetzner’s Reseller customers.
Individual packages that are included in a Volume Plan, share the Volume Plan’s quotas. Should the accumulation of traffic or disk usage, across individual packages, exceed the quota allocation of the Volume Plan, over-usage charges will apply.
Referring to the adjacent graphs, our Value Added Resellers can compare the cost benefit of hosting with a Volume Plan versus a Managed Dedicated server: The Volume Plan at R595 per month offers 10 GB traffic. Once this quota is exhausted, an over-usage charge of R0.08 per MB will apply for a Volume Plan hosted in SA. (You would pay R15 per GB over-usage if you are hosting your Volume Plan in Germany.) Our Managed Dedicated server, at R1 195 per month, offers 5 GB traffic, with an over-usage charge of R0.04 per MB for servers hosted in SA. (There is no over-usage charge for servers hosted in Germany).
Managed Dedicated customers are charged for all traffic generated on their server. The graph takes into account the 20% unaccounted traffic that a Managed Dedicated customer will need to pay.
If you host your Volume Plan in South Africa, using this graph to anticipate the growth of your business based on your increased traffic usage, it would be more cost-effective for you to consider a Managed Dedicated server only once you are reaching approximately 30 GB of traffic per month and are reselling a few hundred hosting packages.

Benefits of the Volume Plan:
- Instant account activation: there are no server migration costs or DNS co-ordination for Web Hosting packages that are included in the Volume Plan. All individual hosting packages are included by default once you have placed your order for a Volume Plan.
- Flexibility: individual hosting packages can be included or excluded from the Volume Plan at the click of a mouse via konsoleH™, allowing you to choose the most cost-effective environment for a particular website project.
- Predictable traffic costs: Volume Plan customers benefit from the reduced risk of exposure to unanticipated traffic costs as Web Hosting customers only pay for traffic associated to a specific domain. By contrast, dedicated hosting customers are charged for ALL traffic generated on their server.
- Increased Uptime: individual hosting packages within the Volume Plan are distributed across Hetzner's servers, instead of residing on a single server.
- Reduced barrier to entry: the economies of scale benefit offered by a Managed Dedicated server is now available within a Volume Plan but at a much lower cost. Once you resell a few hundred hosting accounts, a Managed Dedicated server may prove more cost-effective.
- Better cost management: you can manage individual hosting packages via konsoleH. Using the traffic and disk reporting tools you can ascertain whether a particular domain has exceeded its hosting package quota, allowing you to invoice your customer the over-usage costs.
- Hosting package features retained: all characteristics of the individual Web Hosting packages that are included in your Volume Plan remain active.
- No setup fee: you don’t pay a setup fee when ordering a new Web Hosting package as it is automatically included in your Volume Plan.

Value Added Reseller responsibilities
As a Hetzner Value-Added Reseller, you receive a reliable and competitive web hosting service to pass onto your end customers. Hetzner doesn’t offer competing services such as Internet access, web development & design, marketing and website maintenance. We'd rather share and build better business opportunities with web hosting resellers in South Africa. There are no setup fees or signup requirements to become a Hetzner Value-Added Reseller, but you must be an existing customer.
As a Hetzner Value Added Reseller, you will have to:
- Provide first line of support to customers. Only when a reseller has exhausted their own resources in resolving a problem should they direct inquiries to the Hetzner Contact Centre.
- Ensure that customers adhere to Hetzner's Acceptable Use Policy.
- Consult with customers to determine what services they require.
- Provide appropriate value-added services to the customer (e.g. web design, dial-up, programming etc.) or obtain the requested services from a third party supplier on the customer's behalf.
- Provide direct billing on a single invoice to customers.
- Ensure Hetzner receives payment for the web hosting services provided.
Remember that:
- Responsible Resellers have privacy policies which clearly state how, if at all, customer data will be used or distributed and under what circumstances.
- Responsible Resellers comply with the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communications-related Information Act and the Promotion of Access to Information Act.
- Responsible Resellers have Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) documents on their websites.
- Responsible Resellers establish notification and take-down procedures for unlawful content and activity and respond expeditiously to such notifications.
